Nusa Penida is not just one of Bali’s best diving sites – it is rightly revered as one of the top dive spots in the world, located to Bali’s south-east, one of three islands a 45-minute boat ride from Sanur harbour, while in the far north western seas awaits the world class wilderness of the Menjangan National Park.

Tulamben, a serene seaside village, has become famed as the jumping off point to dive the very popular USAT Liberty, a supply ship torpedoed by the Japanese off Lombok during World War 2 and regarded as the best shore entry wreck dive in the world.

On the east coast of Bali, Padang Bai and Blue Lagoon are 50 minutes’ drive from Sanur, while Amed and Bali’s north east coast is a charming and peaceful fishing village two hours’ scenic drive from Sudamala with magical diving experiences to be had.

Menjangan National Park is a new frontier of diving, with incredible plummeting wall dives in an unspoiled and largely undiscovered wilderness. Far from the madding crowds of the tourist hotspots, discover world class diving and a new perspective on the uniqueness of Bali.

Pemuteran, 20 minutes from Labuan Lalang, offers a small collection of beachfront resorts, and excellent diving with fascinating and rare marine life, dives starting at a depth of around 25m and continuing up to 6m where the coral begins to fade from sunlight. Superb visibility and a dearth of strong currents make this an intriguing option with the bonus of living in a resort on the beach rather than a boat. For experienced divers, the Pemuteran night dive is etched on many a bucket list.

Close to home, Sanur itself will keep divers occupied. The Sanur sites are a few minutes by boat offshore, and teem with a rich array of amazing marine underwater life.
